How To Improve AI Visibility

AEO is still so early, which means now is the perfect time to start small. Even a few intentional updates today could make a major difference in how your brand is discovered in the long term.

Improving your AI visibility in AI search engines like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini can include a mix of technical updates, content improvements, and authority-building strategies. Some changes happen more behind the scenes, like improving your website structure or adding schema markup. Others are much simpler, like using clearer headings, answering common questions, or adding an FAQ section to your website.

This Fieldnotes post is going to be a little different. We’ll walk through practical ways you can begin improving your AI visibility, starting with the quickest and easiest updates first, then moving into the more time-intensive strategies — because we believe small, intentional changes now can create a big impact over time.

At Arta, we believe this space should feel approachable, not intimidating. AI search is changing quickly, but you do not need to overhaul your entire business overnight to begin making progress.

1. Start Writing More Naturally

One of the biggest shifts happening with AI search optimization is that clear, human writing matters more than ever. AI systems are designed to understand conversations, context, and intent. Because of this, content that answers questions naturally and thoughtfully often performs better than content overloaded with keywords.

A good place to start is simply asking yourself:

  • Does this answer a question clearly?

  • Would this feel natural if someone said it out loud?

  • Is this easy to understand quickly?

You do not need to sound overly polished or overly technical. In many cases, simpler and clearer communication works better. The future of search is becoming more conversational, and brands that communicate like humans instead of algorithms may naturally have an advantage.

2. Make Your Website Easier To Read

Think less is more! Sometimes websites already have great information, it’s just difficult to find. Large blocks of text, unclear sections, or inconsistent formatting can make it harder for both people and AI systems to understand what your website is actually saying. In the age of SEO, businesses thought the right strategy was to flood their websites with keywords, but in the new age of AEO and conversational search, removing the fluff and making your message straightforward is the key to success.

A few small updates can help immediately (hint: how these blog posts are formatted):

  • Break up longer paragraphs

  • Use clear section headings

  • Add bullet points when possible

  • Include direct answers near the top of sections

  • Keep information organized and easy to skim

Think about your website like a conversation. The easier it is to follow, the easier it becomes for AI systems to understand your content too.

This is also why FAQ sections can be incredibly helpful.

3. Add FAQ Sections To Important Pages

FAQ sections are one of the easiest and most approachable ways to improve AI visibility. Why? Because they mirror the way people are actually searching now.

Let’s use Arta as an example. Our focus is on positioning ourselves as an AEO agency for small brands. However, when using AI search engines for research, our target clientele is most likely not searching for “AEO branding agency”.

They are asking more conversational questions like:

Our goal in improving our AI visibility is for our brand to appear naturally in AI-generated search results when customers ask relevant questions like the ones above.

FAQ sections help your website directly answer relevant searches to your business in a clear and organized way. And the good news is, you do not need a massive FAQ page either. Even adding 3–5 thoughtful questions to your homepage, service pages, or blog posts can help strengthen your AI discoverability over time.

4. Create Content Around Real Questions

One of the best long-term ways to improve AI visibility is by creating content around questions your audience already has. This is where blogs, educational resources, and thoughtful content become incredibly valuable. Instead of only creating promotional content, try creating content that genuinely helps people learn something, solve a problem, or discover something new.

This could include:

  • beginner guides

  • “how-to” posts

  • industry insights

  • common misconceptions

  • process explanations

  • trend discussions

  • local recommendations

  • thoughtful observations

For example, if you’re a local coffee shop serving brunch and pastries in La Jolla, your content does not always need to directly “sell” your business to still improve visibility.

Your content could look like:

  • sharing a trending seasonal drink recipe as a limited-time menu item

  • creating a reel about the perfect slow morning in La Jolla featuring your coffee shop and other nearby small businesses

  • writing a blog on “Best Coffee Shops & Study Spots In La Jolla.”

  • creating a local guide to the best brunch spots in San Diego

  • posting behind-the-scenes content about how your pastries are made

  • answering common questions about coffee, matcha, or sourcing ingredients

This type of content helps AI systems better understand:

  • what your business does

  • what topics your brand is associated with

  • where your business is located

  • whether your content is genuinely useful and relevant

The brands building trust early are often the ones consistently showing up with thoughtful, helpful, and human-centered content. Also, beyond improving your AI visibility, this type of content builds trust with your customers and is brand-building!

5. Build Your Presence Beyond Your Website

AI visibility is not only about your website itself.

AI systems also look at broader signals across the internet to understand credibility, relevance, and authority. The more consistently your brand appears in relevant online conversations, the easier it becomes for AI systems to understand what your business is known for.

This can include things like:

  • blog mentions

  • online directories

  • interviews

  • podcasts

  • backlinks

  • social conversations

  • community participation

  • educational content

This does not mean you need to suddenly be everywhere online.

Small, thoughtful consistency matters much more than trying to do everything at once. Especially right now, brands willing to show up consistently and share helpful information may have a major advantage as AI search continues evolving.

6. Progress > Perfection (we live by this at Arta)

This may be the most important part of this entire conversation. Because AEO is still evolving, nobody has every answer figured out yet. And, that’s okay!

You do not need:

  • a perfect strategy

  • endless content

  • a huge budget

  • advanced technical knowledge

You just need to begin.

  • one clearer homepage

  • one FAQ section

  • one educational blog post

  • one small improvement at a time
